Blog Carnival roundup

Just one this week, but it’s the really important one:

Blogs4Bauer, home of the Carnival of Bauer!!!, hosts this week. Lots of good stuff, including several lessons to be learned from 24 (such as, “Don’t bring a knife to a Jack fight”).

Here it is. If you want to participate in the next carnival, submit your article here.

Visions of Winchesters: The Supernatural Variety (A Blog Carnival) is on a break, because Supernatural is on a break, unfortunately. Last week’s episode (with the siren) is the last until March 5, according to BuddyTV.

UPDATE: The CW has now pushed the return date for Supernatural (and Smallville) back to March 12, apparently to avoid competing with American Idol’s semi-final round (probably not a bad idea), according to BuddyTV. Thanks to my buddy, Erika, for the tip.

So Say We All: The Battlestar Galactica Blog Carnival, Ed. 4.5.4

February 10th, 2009 | by | battlestar galactica, blog carnival, so say we all

Feb
10

Everyone knows I continue to be utterly amazed at the amazingness of these final episodes. I’m loving the blog carnival this time around, because it’s great to read what others are thinking.

So let’s just dive right in:

Norman Doering presents What scales? Blood, yes, lots of blood, but no scales, posted at A Blog from Hell, saying, “Instead of giving condemned prisoners last rites, on Galactica the atheistic crew talk to Baltar not about their sins, but about their lives overall. It gives the concept of confession a whole new meaning.” He also offers the reader background music to listen to while reading his post. He’s very relieved the mutiny’s over so we can get back to the important questions at hand.

Ms. Smarty Pants presents This Is Supposed to Feel Like a Victory Right?, posted at Ms. Smarty Pants Know It All, saying, “There’s no way to pick a theme so a list it is.” I really like her analysis of both Gaeta and Zarek. Very interesting, particularly Gaeta’s. And she also references this excellent piece by Mo Ryan from the Chicago Tribune, in which Richard Hatch (who played Apollo in the original series) explains Zarek.

Audra presents BSG – 4 down, 6 to go, posted at True Science Fiction. She was so stunned by the episode that she headed straight to the computer to jot down her thoughts. We go down the rabbit hole with her. Interesting question she raises about Starbuck.

Nina presents Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Epi. 14: Blood on the Scales, posted at Blog It Out Bitch. She agrees with me that Mary McDonnell needs an Emmy, that Gaeta is somewhat of a tragic figure (though he still got what he deserved) and that Adama is IT.

Roberta presents BSG ruminations posted at CouchSlobs – A Monument To Human Idleness. She, well, ruminates, on the episode. I, too, had expected either Roslin or Adama to die, because that’s just what this show would do. I, too, wonder if Anders died, and if he didn’t, if he could still resurrect, as it appears Ellen will do/has done. She wants to know what one big question you have that you want answered. Me? Why Sharon is model Number 8, when the “new” Cylons only have seven models. Huh? Riddle me this, Batman!

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of so say we all using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

The Carnival of Bauer!!!! returns

February 5th, 2009 | by | 24, blog carnival

Feb

Hour 7 totally rocked the house, with 5 Jack kills, Red Hot getting at least one kill, Tony claiming some lives, Phlox blowing up and general mayhem – along with the First Dude talking his way out of getting his brains splattered all over the wall.

Sure, we had a total WTF moment when Chewbacca got home and his waitress girlfriend came by to ask if they were still on for dinner, and Jack didn’t drop any Dammits, but it was an excellent hour of television, by any standard.

So it’s no surprise we have some excellent entries this week for the Carnival of Bauer!!!, and I’m thrilled to say Adam from The Jack Sack™ made a carny screencap for me (actually, gave me two choices, and as a bonus I’ll put the runner up at the bottom of this post):

carny1

To start things off with the appropriate humor, let’s head on over to the aforementioned Jack Sack™ and check out the latest set of e-cards. No. 3 makes me sad. :-(

Steve over at the Magic Lamp, whose minute-by-minute recaps of 24 are so frakkin’ funny that Dave Barry posts them on his blog, does it again Warning: He does these so detailed it might take you an hour to read it. But it’s pretty funny, so it won’t be a wasted hour. Like this: “2:54 – At the White House, the news shows the Kidron plant is in a state of disarray, with some people wearing chemical outfits. Others are just going into neighboring towns which must have some kind of anti-insecticide shielding (but really HUGE bugs).”

Kasia over at Almeida is God waxes poetic over the episode. She truly, madly, deeply loves 24 and, of course, Tony. One thing I missed, though, was the symmetry of Jack and Tony’s handshake mirroring the opening scene of Season 2 (my personal favorite, btw), but that’s not lost on her.

Jackster at the covert diaries of jackster maps out all the potential moles in Season 7 so far, detailing the pros and the cons on why each would or wouldn’t fit the role. I really hadn’t considered Janis Gold as a mole, but he had some interesting theories. Fact is, it’ll be another 15 hours before we find out all of them for sure.

TonyJunkie from Tony Almeida Junkie Blog found a great little article about the good folks of Kidron, Ohio, who were quite surprised to find their town was the focal point of a 24 terrorist near-attack.

Jeff Kouba of Truth vs. the Machine recaps the hour with a Copy That drinking game, in which, just as it sounds, you have to drink every time someone utters “Copy that.” Needless to say, he’s a bit tipsy by episode’s end.

King Tom from King Tom’s Kingdom points out something I hadn’t noticed before (and neither had he) that our big bad guy (so far) is named “Ike.” Yes, Like Eisenhower. Really?

Here’s a fun one – Jack Bauer calls President Obama. How’s that work out? Not so well? Anyhow, thanks to Never Yet Melted for that one.
And over at Zap2It.com, they don’t much like Janis Gold, either.

Finally, we have Blogs4Bauer‘s weekly Tivo Blogging update by our very own VtheK, complete with all the “official” (to B4B, at least) nicknames of the season to date.

Want to  join in the fun next week? Submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of bauer!!! using our carnival submission form. Past and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

carny2Again, thanks to Adam for the fabulous screencaps! You should see what he can do with some paint, children’s furniture and too much knowledge of Star Wars!

So Say We All: The Battlestar Galactica Blog Carnival, Ed. 4.5.3

February 3rd, 2009 | by | battlestar galactica, blog carnival, so say we all

Feb
03

Friday’s episode was perhaps the finest ever for Battlestar Galactica – in part because it was absolutely the bleakest.

Because we have a mere seven episodes left, and we know this show doesn’t go in for the happy endings, who knows what’s going to happen. We know Adama makes it to this Friday’s episode, but will they kill him? Totally could happen.

I truly looked forward to everyone’s reviews this week because there was so much to consider.

Norman Doering presents Battlestar Galactica: “The Oath” posted at A Blog from Hell, saying, “This has happened before… In fact, this is the third mutiny. Come on, if even your robots can’t follow orders like robots and rebel on you, why would you treat people like robots?” And he points out that despite this being excellently drawn, it has left us at least one episode less in which to answer the questions raised by the existence of Cylons that are at least 2,000 years old.

Audra presents BSG – 3 down, 8 to go posted at True Science Fiction. She gives voice to many of the same questions the rest of us watching had, not least of all, “Is Adama dead?”

Roberta presents BSG So Say We All Blog carnival returns posted at CouchSlobs – A Monument To Human Idleness. The key to the show right now, Roberta rightly points out, has shifted from the “riddle” of the last Cylon to something far more important and compelling – what will humanity do now? Will it collapse in on itself and destroy those who’ve kept them alive for so long or will it join with those who destroyed the colonies and find a better path, together?

Ms. Smarty Pants presents Smiles in the Middle of Chaos posted at Ms. Smarty Pants Know It All, saying, “It was an episode in which most of the characters returned to form.” I smiled when I read her comment about Starbuck, that she functions best when the world around her is as crazy as she is – truth.

Because everyone loves a carnival …

January 29th, 2009 | by | 24, blog carnival, lost, supernatural

Jan

Two blog carnivals for TV Tyrant today:

• The Carnival of Bauer!!! (cotton candy bullets!) over at The Jack Sack. Adam’s one of my oldest blogger friends and is always funny, so I’ll even forgive him for continuing to harass me over the silent clock issue.

Visions of Winchesters: The Supernatural Variety, over at Pop Culture Curmudgeon. Reviews, news and clips galore this week.

I still have some pondering to do over yesterday’s episode of Lost; I’ll have something posted in the next day or so. Just one thing (SPOILER ALERT – don’t read if you didn’t watch): Did your jaw drop when Richard Alpert said, “Widmore”? If you say no, you’re a big, fat stinking liar.

So Say We All: The Battlestar Galactica Blog Carnival, Ed. 4.5.2

January 27th, 2009 | by | battlestar galactica, blog carnival, so say we all

Jan

With only eight episodes left ever of this fabulous show, there’s not much time to waste. Though Friday’s installment didn’t have a lot of action, it advanced many elements toward their painful conculsions.

One thing I didn’t realize at the time was that Ron Moore directed the episode, his first time in the four years he’s co-run the show with David Eick.

And so we round up the action in this week’s blog carnival:

Audra was glad the show finally addressed little Nicky’s parentage and why no one was making a big deal about his half-Cylon-ness, in BSG Countdown- 2 down, 8 to go posted at True Science Fiction.

Norman Doering laments the import given to the Zarek storyline, believing there are more important things to resolve, in Battlestar Galactica: “The Disquiet That Follows My Soul” posted at A Blog from Hell. Norman says, ” Well, it seems Adm. Adama and Apollo are being ignorant and authoritarian pricks. They are not telling people everything they know.”

Ms. Smarty Pants charts the important points of “Disquiet” in This Is Not a Show for the Addle-Minded posted at Ms. Smarty Pants Know It All.

Nina recaps the episode in the only way she can – with style and … attitude, in  Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Epi 12: The Disquiet That Follows My Soul posted at Blog It Out Bitch. I personally agree with her assessment of how Adama is likely to react when he finds out the truth about Gaeta.

The Carnival of Bauer!!! Day 7

January 22nd, 2009 | by | 24, blog carnival, jack bauer, miscellaneous, supernatural, talk like jack bauer day, tv shows

Jan
22

Welcome to the January 22, 2009 edition of the Carnival of Bauer!!! (been such a long time coming!)

We needed a week to get our act together after last week’s stunning four-hour premiere, but we’re raring to go.

We’ll start off with the man himself, Jack Bauer, who recaps the episode in his inimitable fashion TivoBlogging: The Following Takes Place Between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM posted at Blogs4Bauer. Not sure what everyone’s new nickname is for the season? They’re all here. And as mean as it might seem to call Alison Taylor President Cankles, it’ll still make you giggle.

Next up, you know you missed it – we all did – Adam over at The Jack Sack gives us a 24 picture book, “Renee Walker tracks down a rare DVD.” If you don’t laugh, you have no sense of humor. By the way, President Cankles has much better taste in movies than her husband.

Wesley M. gives us a peek at what 24 would be like if it were, say, a celebreality dating show. With Nina Meyers to boot. Check it out at 24 Shots at Love: The Lost Episode posted at In My Copious Free Time.

Jarett Wieselman waxes poetic about Agent Walker and her Baueristic tendencies – and he’s also loving Janis Gold, whom he dubs the New Chloe, which I would say might possibly be accurate, except that Old Chloe is still around, hello!!! – in his post I’m Loving “24′s” Female Jack Bauer posted at POPWRAP.

Then, there’s me. First off, I’m still all confused about what happened to Agent Walker. Is she dead? Alive? The silent clock, for the first time, may have lied. Bastards. Check out my thoughts on the matter at 24: Silent clock subterfuge? And here’s my overall thoughts on Day 7, after seeing the four-hour premiere.

So Say We All: The Battlestar Galactica Blog Carnival, Ed. 4.5.1

January 20th, 2009 | by | battlestar galactica, blog carnival

Jan
20

Now that Battlestar Galactica has returned, so has the So Say We All Battlestar Galactica Blog Carnival.

There’s been lots of BSG goodness throughout the blogosphere since the show returned Friday (first episode of Season 4.5, thus Ed. 4.5.1), and the only bad thing is that we only have nine episodes left.

Before I link to any submissions, though, I do want to say that Ron Moore has 150 percent confirmed that Ellen Tigh is the final Cylon, so everyone can just stop speculating about it already. Thank you.

We’re going to start with a flashback of sorts, from carnival regular David Bird, who blogs on Thursdays about the previous episode, so is a week behind on the carnival. In this case, however, it works very well, seeing as he recaps the webisodes as a whole, in In The Face Of The Enemy posted at David Bird.

Stephanie breaks down the big reveals from Friday’s episode in Battlestar Galactica!! posted at Dube’s World. In fact, she spotted one MAJOR reveal that went right past me. Read through to the end.

Norman Doering has lots of why and how questions about the origin and nature of Cylons, in Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 posted at A Blog from Hell. Wish I knew the answers to them.

Audra didn’t see anything coming, though some of them she still wasn’t surprised by. It makes sense when you read her thoughts over at BSG – 1 down, 9 to go posted at True Science Fiction.

Nina gives us both the Top 10 Things you need to know about BSG as presented by Moore & Eick, along with her liveblog, which is … very heartfelt, at Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5 – Epi. 11: Sometimes A Great Notion posted at Blog It Out Bitch.

Ms. Smarty Pants spends most of her post discussing Dualla and, to a lesser extent, D’Anna, and how two such strong women decided to pretty much end it all there on a destroyed planet, in What Happens to a Dream Obliterated? posted at Ms. Smarty Pants Know It All.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of so say we all using our carnival submission form. Past and future editions can be found on our blog carnival index page.
