For the first time – it felt that way, at least – Lost gave us a hint that not everything is predetermined and there just might be the chance to decide your own fate.

In fact, that’s what “Dr. Linus” was all about.

On the Island, Ben spent the hour first trying not to admit he killed Jacob, trying to weasel out of his punishment for killing Jacob and then, finally, explaining why he did. Telling the truth, for once.

And his telling the truth saved his life. Ilana knew he was speaking the truth. Knew that Ben had given his life to serve Jacob, serve the Island, sacrificing perhaps the only person he’d ever cared about for … what? For an island that Jacob, whom he’d never seen, had asked him to protect.

And Ben may actually be redeemable. He chose to stay with Ilana and the others because they’d have him, rather than going with Flocke, who gave him a gun and freed him. And told him to kill Ilana. (What’s he gonna do when he finds Ben isn’t coming to the Hydra station?)

The fact that Ben chose not to kill her, even though he knew she would kill him in a second, showed there are third acts in life.

But more importantly, in our alternate timeline, Dr. Benjamin Linus, history teacher, chose Alex’s future over his own. He had the chance to get his own fiefdom and run the school however he saw fit, but at the expense of his favorite student.

Say whatever you want about the fact that all these folks are thrust together again in non-island life – Ben, Locke, Doc Arzt, Alex, etc. – but we learned last night a very important lesson: We have control over our own destiny.

Whatever happened? Well, maybe it didn’t have to happen.

Though Ben and his dad WERE with the Dharma initiative, still. I think that’s because the timeline split with the bomb, and Ben and his dad were already on the island. Everyone was forced to leave, and that must be where Ben and his dad returned home. But obviously they had reconciled many times over, his father forgiving Ben for “killing” his mom.

Which brings us to Richard.

We now know why Richard is ageless: Jacob made him that way. He’s not technically immortal, as someone else can kill him. He just can’t kill himself. But this also explained to us how Jack managed to be saved at the last minute when he was trying to kill himself – he can’t kill himself, either.

Jacob’s touch is a gift – and a curse. Could Jin & Sun, Hurley, Sayid or Sawyer kill themselves? It would seem not, based on last night. Hurley shouldn’t have run away. Though it was funnier that way. And more suspenseful, actually.

Don’t tell me you didn’t heave a sigh of relief when Jack was proved right.

But you know the moment I liked most Tuesday night? The reunion scene. When Jack, Hurley and Richard come back to the beach and Sun delightedly runs to hug them. They’re family now, for better or worse. Even Frank (love him!) is part of the gang. Then Ben, standing alone on one end of the crowd, Richard alone on the other side. Both apart from the crowd, all alone with no Jacob left on the island.

THEN, WHAMMO! WTF? Richard Widmore, in the submarine, under the ocean. It’s like a game of Clue, but Lost-style.

This gives me great hope that we’re going to get some real answers soon. Richard’s background (obviously he was a slave on the Black Rock, thus the chains and his never having been back there all his time on the island); who Widmore REALLY is and what his purpose is.

I love this freakin’ show.

I know there are some out there who are tired of this alternate reality storyline, but to them I say: You’ve been along for the ride this long, and THIS is what’s bugging you?

Team Darlton has been building toward this season for years now; this is not a red herring, this is not just some throwaway storyline. This is absolutely imperative to understanding everything they’ve been telling us for more than five years now.

What is that? Beats the hell outta me, but I am along for the ride.

So, last week gave us a Sayid-centric episode, and I found it right in line with everything we’ve ever been taught on Lost.

Sayid is a tortured soul. Yes, how ironic, given that he was a torturer.

But I wonder: Is the darkness Dogen found within Sayid the MiB or just the stain Sayid himself has cast upon himself?

In the alternate storyline, we see a Sayid who travels the world translating documents for an oil company. Nice jet-setting life that also happens to be incredibly boring. If he was telling the truth. The way he disarmed Keamy’s slimeballs and killed Keamy makes it seem he’s kept up his training. I suppose it’s possible.

He’s as hung up on Nadia as ever, but she married his brother. We later find out that Sayid pushed Nadia toward his brother because he felt unworthy of being with her, due to all the bad he had done while in the Republican Guard.

Sayid’s never forgiven himself, in either timeline. He believes that he deserves everything bad coming to him for that very reason.

The question is whether he truly is in the thrall of the MiB.

Now, was Dogen actually telling the truth about Sayid not letting MiB talk before killing him? I did note that Smocke said, “Hi Sayid,” before Sayid stabbed him. And Dogen noted that; was he just guessing or did that REALLY matter?

And, is Sayid dead? Did he let MiB kill him or did the Smoke Monster skip him? And why is it that Smokey couldn’t come in unless Dogen was dead? What is it about Dogen that kept him at bay? I thought it was the ash that did it, but it didn’t make a bit of difference in the end.

Side note: So weird to see Ben so jumpy and uncertain about what the hell he’s doing. And did you notice Jack in the hospital scene when Sayid went to visit his brother? (Of course you did.)

And speaking of weird, Claire is just plain CREEPY. Dunno if it’s the hair or the 100-yard stare what. I was pretty sure she was gonna kill Kate when Kate got knocked into the hole. Though she obviously wants Aaron before she kills Kate, so she’s safe for now, I suppose.

I don’t feel as if anything was answered in the episode, but it was so obviously building toward SO MUCH. Cindy, the stewardess, taking the kids from the plane out of the Temple. All the other people who left; are they now actually free, as Sayid told them, or are they just transferring one sort of prison for another?

Why was the MiB forced to stay on the island? Why can he only take the form of Locke right now? How does he have the power to transform into a pillar of homicidal smoke? Why was Kate not on the list? Who in the hell is Dogen and are you also bummed out that he’s dead? Is Sayid alive? Why was Jin beaten up by Keamy and his crew and trapped in a meat locker?

Why do all these people have all these connections off-island as well as on? Why are they so important?

We’ll know soon enough, I suppose.

I don’t have a helluva lot to say after Monday night’s episode except for: What? Did ANYthing happen?

Yeah, some guns were drawn and a guy jumped out the window after shooting who he thought was Hairbib Schwartzmann, but, really? That was it? Jack’s leading a bunch of redshirts around, but no one’s getting killed. And Chico Jr. is spending WAY too much time with Dana/Jenny. Isn’t there some national crisis going on?

Maybe something else happened, but I got distracted by something interesting, so I must have missed it.

I was struck this week by how perfect the music is on Lost.

I think it came to mind because I finally watched, “There Will Be Blood” last weekend (why did everyone flip out about that milkshake line? I mean, really!) and the soundtrack reminded me of Lost.

It wasn’t so much that the music sounded like the soundtrack of the Best Show On Television, though there certainly were moments that sounded similar. It was how the music evoked a feeling the moment before the movie did.

Every music change on Lost prepares you for the next moment. It so perfectly sets up the next feeling, emotion.

That was in evidence this week, as the Lighthouse episode answered more bits and pieces and brought us justhismuchcloser to find out what on Earth is going on here.

The numbers

They’re degrees, geographical coordinates. Those numbers had to be punched into the computer over and over and over again for one simple reason: To bring the Losties to the Island and then to keep them there.

Who is 108? We didn’t find out. Maybe it’s Desmond? Or could even be someone we don’t know yet. In fact, for a change, the detail wasn’t so important. It was what the detail brought to us that was – that the Lighthouse was a means for Jacob to monitor all his candidates from their youngest days.

Also, that perhaps the cave on the cliff was not Jacob’s. If he had everyone listed here, in the lighthouse, what need would he have had for that cave? The cave seems more in line with the MiB anyhow. So who killed all those people who are dead? Was it the fault of the MiB or Jacob?

Jack

Look, I know a lot of people don’t like Jack. I’ve alternated back and forth on him myself. But no matter what, Matthew Fox has played him pitch-perfectly.

I wanna know: Who was Jack’s ex? Was it the ex from the pre-explosion life?

We know that Jack always felt he couldn’t live up to his dad. And now we know that in the alternate reality, he felt the same way.

Also interesting: This alternate reality is obviously not quite right. Jack couldn’t remember getting his appendix out. He’s surprised to see the scar. Being a doctor, he knows what a scar like that means. But original timeline Jack never had his appendix out. So this Jack is confused.

That’s the first indication we’ve gotten that this alternate reality is not really an alternate reality. I feel as if it’s going to merge somehow with the original timeline, even though so many things are different. I don’t know how or why, but I just feel it, and the appendix scar was the first thing that really convinced me of that.

But here’s the main issue I’m curious about: Claire. In our alternate reality, they find out upon Jack’s dad’s death that Claire is his sister, because of the will (ok, not yet, but it’s obvious it’s soon). But in the original time stream, Jack only found out because Claire’s mom came to the memorial service.

Christian Shepherd must have had a will in the original timeline. He wasn’t the type of man to not have a will. And we know that in the original timeline he was concerned about Claire. Hell, he died after trying to visit her.

So why was Claire not in his will in our original timeline?

Claire

Speaking of, I’m more convinced than ever that Claire is bat-guano crazy.Which, this being Lost, makes me wonder if she’s crazy at all.

On the one hand, she’s been living alone on the island all this time. That’s enough to make anyone cuckoo. And we know what happened to Rousseau – obviously the same thing as to her.

But, first, I must ask if she’s even really alive?

I also wonder, if there’s this alternate timeline, what if, in this timeline, Aaron IS with the Others. Jin wasn’t with them long enough to have determined a single thing. Ben did take Alex, so Rousseau’s obsession with the Others having taken her baby was completely correct.

What if, in this reality, Claire’s belief that the Others stole Aaron is actually true?

Don’t say it’s ridiculous. This is Lost. The show that has made the ridiculous not only realistic, but fascinating and compelling.

The last two hours of 24 – 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. and 12 a.m. to 1 a.m. – have been both exhiliarating and a crapfest.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some fantastic moments in last night’s episode – Jack’s defense of Renee, his Jack Sack adjustment, his being freed even though he’d just attacked an official of the Justice Department – but it was so overwhelmed by the stupid Dana/Jenny plot as to be infuriating.

There have been many stupid side plots on 24, with Season 2’s “Misadventures of Kim Bauer” — which included her being framed for murder, being trapped by a mountain lion (cougar), being held hostage by Johnny Drama for about an hour and being a hostage in a convenience store robbery (really? the Kwik-E-Mart? Truth be told, that was even stupider than the cougar) — being the gold standard up until now.

Why is 24 wasting Katee Sackhoff on such a putrid storyline?

Let’s review:

Dana Walsh isn’t Dana Walsh. She’s Jenny Whitetrash, but covers up that southern accent really well. Her boyfriend, Dumb Hick, and his prison “buddy,” Dumber Cracker, have been blackmailing Dana/Jenny into helping them commit grand theft (I’m not sure of the exact technical crime, but that’s the one that makes sense to me).

Seems when she was an impressionable, underaged teen, she helped Dumb commit some crime. Because she was a minor, she got out quickly and her record was expunged. Because he wasn’t, he served serious time.

DanaJenny turned her life around and got a job working for the federal government in the most mole-ridden agency ever in the history of mankind. So, naturally, after being recreated, CTU didn’t improve its background check procedure and didn’t manage to find out that its top analyst wasn’t really who she said she was.

What’s the fun in that?

So now DanaJenny is completely susceptible to blackmail and she helps the StupidTwins rob a police evidence locker place, where they fling stuff around like monkeys tossing feces and nearly kill a cop. Good work.

Then they go to a strip joint and pick up some hookers. Who actually go with the boys in their rapist van to some deserted park and then leave, walking home. Right. Was that Hempstead Lake State Park? (Inside joke. Some of you will understand.)

So now Jenny’s sitting in some car, pistol with a silencer on it, ready to kill Dumb and Dumber.

But Chico Jr. arrives and won’t let her do it. He threatens the meth addict pair and tells them to get outta dodge. Dumb is OK with that. They got a six-figure payday and some hookers, so it’s all good. Dumber isn’t OK w/it, so he shoots Dumb, who still loves JENNNAH! and warns her just in the nick of time. Chico kills Dumber with his own shotgun.

So part of this storyline would seem to be resolved now.

But now the best CTU agent since Curtis is tied up in a moronic murder of someone who should have been a candidate for the Darwin awards years ago.

And to top it off, his fiance isn’t who he thought she was.

Blecch.

This is 24?

That said, there were moments of pure Jack genius in the past two hours:
• Jack, while tied and hanging from the ceiling and having been tortured by electricity being pumped into his gaping abdominal wound, manages to knock out his torturer, get down from the ceiling, untie himself and kill his captor. Mostly with his legs.
• He has a shootout with the bad guy from Judge Dredd and wins. He’s just been tortured. And he was stabbed in the abdomen just about an hour earlier.
• The rods (RODS!) are in Flushing.
• Jack busted into a room where Red Hot was being questioned about her massive stabbing of Vlad the impaled and put the hurt on the Justice Department chick who tried to stop him.
• Jack was tased. Did I mention he was just recently stabbed in the abdomen, tortured and involved in a firefight and he’s still standing? Bad idea. (C’mon, you know you laughed when the CTU security guard backed up when Jack gently advised him to.)
• Jack was ready to go on the lam with Red Hot. W00t! I’d watch that spinoff.
• Jack accepted Hasting’s offer of going back on the job for real and an all-you-can-eat shrimp buffet. He even adjusted his Jack Sack strap from “casual” on one shoulder to “ready to kick ass” with an over the head, across the chest move. It also allows him to put the bag behind him and not fall off while he’s at the shrimp buffet. True story.

All in all, the last two eps were fabulous. I just am really tired of the DanaJenny storyline and wish all people involved, except for Chico Jr., would just leave, already. Unfortunately, Chico Jr. is too tied up in it now, which means we’ll be the ones who’ll be tortured for the rest of the season.

Hopefully, Jack will be at least one more time. We need some more kickass scenes.

One of many things I love about Lost is that they are so meticulous about titling their episodes.

“The Substitute” works on so many levels.

Most obviously, Locke finds his calling, perhaps, as a substitute teacher (I’ll get to Ben later. Yowza!).

But then there’s the idea of the substitute Locke on the Island. He’s Smocke, and he can, it seems, take form as the Smoke Monster, but also as John Locke. According to Jacob’s bodyguard, he can’t take on the form of anyone else right now, though (of course) we have no idea why.

And then there’s the third level (ooh, a trinity!) – Jacob has been looking for a substitute all this time. Sawyer was a candidate. Jack. Hurley. Sayid. Jin (or Sun, but I’m guessing Jin). Locke (the real one). So many names crossed off. Noticed “Austen” wasn’t among the names Smocke pointed out. Is that because he must take the form of a man or because Kate isn’t “suitable”?

If Kate isn’t suitable, then why is she even on the island? Why has she been so important? Is it because of the pull she has on both Sawyer and Jack?

The question, of course, is WHY all these people were suitable. All are flawed, in varying degrees. But heavily flawed. Hurley can’t control his eating and is justalittlebit cuckoo (and can see dead people). Locke is a perpetual sad sack and fatalist. Sayid tortured people. Jack has to fix everything and he’s an alcoholic. Sawyer a conman. Jin & Sun have a whole host of secrets from one another and Jin does bad things for Sun’s dad – and she blames him for it, as opposed to herself.

Which begs THIS question: Is Smocke telling the truth? Is Jacob actually the bad guy? Things on Lost are never as they seem to be, and Jacob so obviously seems to be in the right and Smocke so obviously in the wrong that it very easily could be the opposite. Of course, they could be pulling a Triple Pretend on us, and it is actually what it seems to be.

Just because he beat up Richard, dragged him across the jungle and hung him in a bag from a tree doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. Only on Lost could that statement be made.

By the way: How awesome an actor is Terry O’Quinn? The range he played just last night, never mind the John Locke of old, he’s as good an actor as Michael Emerson. We just haven’t seen him play the range he is playing this season. There isn’t a HINT of John Locke’s persona in Smocke, as Sawyer very quickly pointed out.

I have to say, I’m glad Smocke pulled Sawyer out of his funk. A drunk and self-pitying Sawyer isn’t a fun Sawyer.

Now, the fact that Sawyer also could see the blond boy in the jungle was interesting, too. Obviously means something about Sawyer, as Richard couldn’t see the boy. Or maybe it means something about Richard. Maybe Richard was never the “leader” of the Others because he didn’t have that extra something. Or perhaps he traded that “something” for his immortality.

OK, so just a few things about off-island Locke:
• Nice to see Locke about to be happily married
• Don’t EVEN tell me he’s not going to be cured by Jack
• Hurley is so cool
• Locke is so much more able to cope with disappointment than Island locke was
• Did you catch that his father is alive and involved and will be coming to the wedding?
• Love Rose! She kicked Locke’s butt but good. And rightly.
• Benjamin Linus, history teacher. Would have been SO appropriate if he were teaching ancient history, with a specialty in Egyptology, no? But still. Looks like he and Locke are going to be fast friends. WOW. Love it.

And Ben on the Island? His eulogy at Locke’s graveside was actually very touching. Probably the most honest thing he EVER said in his adult life.

But best line of the night goes to Frank, who muttered, “Weirdest damn funeral I’ve ever been to” after Ben’s eulogy, as he reaches for a shovel to pile the dirt on Locke.

The most interesting thing, to me, about Reins of a Waterfall, is that we started, finally, to see the Joseph Adama who was hinted at in Battlestar Galactica.

Up to this point, the Joseph Adams/Adama we’ve seen in Caprica is a family man. Sure, he’s related to a major crime family, but he’s the legit one. Sure, he works long hours, but he loves his family and is trying to do right by his son.

We saw snatches of a more domestic Joseph before the bombing, talking with his daughter and wife on the cell. We see it in his attempts to bond with Willie. We see it in his tears for his daughter, whom he now believes to be gone forever.

But the Joseph Adama we heard about on Battlestar was different. He was badass enough to have produced Bill Adama, who joined the military – about as big a rebellion as he could find, it appeared.

The Joseph Adama we heard about seemed mythical, almost. Larger than life.

And in the final moments of “Waterfall,” we saw that man begin to emerge.

His admonition to his brother to “balance things out,” was downright chilling.

For the Graystones, the hurt is only just beginning.

For the viewer, things are really starting to get good.

Yes, Supernatural has been picked up for a Season 6.

It’s going to be hard to improve on this season (though I admit, I’m a couple episodes behind). It’s no secret that I wouldn’t have been disappointed if this were the last season, purely for story purposes.

So long as the entire team is behind another season, it should be good.

As usual, my brain hurt (in a good way) after watching Lost this week. Though it didn’t REALLY answer any questions, it did start to go in that direction, I thought.

I have trouble recapping Lost in any sort of normal way – I suppose that’s because it’s anything but a normal show, so I’m going to do what I did last week and break it into two parts: Alternate Reality and The Island. Since we didn’t get anything with Ben and the Others with him or Smokey Locke with Richard, I’m not going to say too much about them, except for some fascinating thoughts about Richard in this post from JOpinionated.

OK, so, let’s start with the

Alternate reality

Further evidence that this group of people are drawn together and that no matter how reality changes, some things stay the same.

Remember how Kate was the one who delivered Aaron in the jungle first time around? No coincidence that she’s there when Claire almost gives birth. She and Claire have a strong connection. That stuffed animal, the orca whale in Claire’s bag? Didn’t Aaron have one just like it when he was living with Kate?

And Claire is fated to raise her child, at least off-island. The couple who were supposed to adopt suddenly split just before Claire flies to the states? And the wife doesn’t bother to call to say, “Nevermind”? That’s because Claire was supposed to get on that plane. I can’t help but think that somehow Jack will find out Claire is his sister (trust me, I’m chomping at the bit to get to that part, too, but patience!) and they’ll be drawn together.

Speaking of Jack, did you notice the puzzled looks of recognition Jack and Kate gave one another as she rode away in her hijacked cab? They know they know each other, they just don’t know why.

OK, so we know that Kate murdered someone, though given how much things are different in this version of reality, it is possible she’s telling Claire the truth and is actually innocent this time around. Or maybe she accidentally killed a different person. Maybe her mother? I’m totally talking out of my ass here, so don’t think I actually know anything. I try to remain spoiler-free, so if there is some spoiler out there answering this question, please don’t share.

When it comes down to it, that’s pretty much all that happened in the alternate timeline this week. So let’s go to the island, shall we?

The Island

The Temple Others are a very confused lot.

And they’re reaching the point where they can’t keep secrets anymore.

Here’s one interesting moment: Dogen tells Jack that he was “brought” to the island, just like Jack. So it would seem that everyone who’s been brought to the island has been brought by Jacob or by Smokey. Which would, FINALLY, explain the lists that Ben was giving out, back in the day.

But, then, why weren’t Jack, Kate, Hurley and Co. kidnapped from the beach? Was it because they ended up killing Ethan before he got around to it, so The Others washed their hands of them?

Remember, back in Season 2, when Michael was ordered to bring four Losties to The Others? Kate. Jack. Sawyer. Hurley (though he was sent back). They’re all here, now. And Sayid and Jin went to help rescue them. We know why Jack was brought there – to operate on Ben. And Sawyer and Kate were there to make Jack be willing to operate.

But could there have been something deeper there?

Speaking of, nice reminder of who idiot boy Other was, knocked out by Kate three years earlier. Just before – whammo!  See? What happened, happened, and Kate was meant to put this guy in his place with a nice punch to the head.

OK, all kidding aside, his attitude was interesting, because we have seen very little dissention among The Others in all these years. But this guy is ready to kill Kate for a personal slight, despite the fact that Kate is obviously very important to Jacob.

The other Other, however, is ready to tell them some secrets, which also is very out of character for an Other.

We know that a few years have gone by since the Losties first got on the helicopter and off the island, because Rousseau’s been dead a few years. So we’re getting a sense of time, and it seems the same amount of time has passed on the island as passed off-island. Or, at least, the same amount of time as had passed before the Ajira flight crashed.

One absolute answer we got, however, was what happened to Claire on-island. And, for that matter, Rousseau. Smokey.

Did you really think Claire was alive? WOW. Claire is Rousseau reincarnated.

But remember how Rousseau kinda went crazy and killed the others with her? I wonder if the other researchers on her boat had been brought to the island by Jacob, but Smokey managed to get into Rousseau and have her kill her friends and colleagues. All Jacob could do was rescue her child. Which she didn’t see as rescue at all, of course.

I wonder if the reason women on the island can’t carry babies to term is that Smokey won’t allow them to? And there must be something very important about Aaron for her to have come to Kate in a vision and insist she not bring Aaron back to the island. Smokey has a thing for the Shepherd family. He controls Christian Shepherd, infected Claire and who knows what he wants with Jack and Aaron? (Same thing, I’d assume.)

But why are the Shepherds so important? Perhaps it’s all in the name?

And Sayid. So he’s NOT a vessel for Jacob at all. He was, alas, too much of a perfect vessel for Smokey. He’s not there yet, but he soon will be yielding a rifle, shooting others. If you think about it, Rousseau starts to make even more sense. She was a pregnant researcher, not a military sharpshooter. But infected by Smokey, she turned into a deadly force.

And now Claire, who was merely a pregnant teen when she came to the island, is the same. Can you imagine how deadly an infected Sayid could be???

I love that Jack didn’t give him the pill. At first, I was ticked that he didn’t, because I trusted The Temple Others. And I understand where they’re coming from, in a way. But I still do not want Sayid killed just because he’s infected by Smokey. Who’s to say that Smokey REALLY is the bad guy? Just because he wears black? Just because he takes the form of Smokey?

If you think about it, we’re actually getting tremendous answers to long-standing questions, it just takes time for it all to be digested.

OK, let me start by saying that the entirety of Monday night’s episode was about as far from Awesometastic as you can get.

In fact, I almost fell asleep a couple of times. Or would have, anyway, if I hadn’t been liveblogging.

But that 30 seconds or so — you know what I’m talking about — were among the best 30 seconds in the history of this storied show.

Let’s recap, shall we?

Renee stabs the crap out of Leoben Vlad, ’till he’s dead and bloody on the floor. Jack comes in, Renee stabs him in the gut.

Oops.

Jack slumps to the ground.

Suddenly, a bad guy bursts in! Without missing a beat, Jack slides the knife out of his gut and flings it across the room as only Jack Bauer can, stabbing the bad guy in the throat. I think he got pinned against the wall, even.

But wait, there’s more.

Jack and Renee leave the room, whereupon Jack shoots two more bad guys — to death! By the way, he’s bleeding a lot.

They hear other bad guys coming (these happen to be a totally different set of bad guys who were coming to kill the first set of bad guys), so Renee hides in a closet or really huge vent of some sort next to the shower, while Jack gives himself up so he can go undercover and get the nuclear rods.

Did I mention that Jack has a huge blood stain on his shirt that’s still growing when he does this?

I mean, come ON. If that short stretch didn’t energize you and make you fist pump and shout, “YEAH!” then you’re not really a fan of 24.

A few other notes:
• Renee is awesome, but her head is totally where Jack’s was in Season 2. Remember how he was going to fly the live nuke over the desert until George Mason, dying from radiation poisoning, insisted on sacrificing himself instead, seeing as he was gonna die anyway? Yep, just that messed up. There’s hope for the girl, though. I mean, look at Jack now … oh, nevermind.
• Dana Walsh is an idiot.
• Her boyfriend is a bigger idiot.
• Her boyfriend’s friend is the biggest idiot. I mean, REALLY. And who didn’t see it coming that he was going to beat the crap out of the cop with that baseball bat?
• Really, Dumber and Dumbest? You couldn’t just steal money without trashing the evidence cage like you were a pair of monkeys?
• Oh, Dana, maybe if you weren’t so consumed with the grand theft you’re helping to orchestrate (by the way, that was a rather fast turnaround, too bad the morons couldn’t even read a simple four-digit number), someone would have noticed people going in through sewer pipes and stuff, and maybe would know where Jack is. Chloe’s pissed. You don’t want to piss her off. Really. Remember Season 5 when she Tased that guy in the bar just because he was annoying? Twice?
• Arlo, could you be a little less obvious that you have the hots for Dana? I mean, you’re right to be suspicious and all, but that will be little consolation when you’re sent to HR. CTU does not condone sexual harassment. Moles and spies, sure. But sexual harassment? Step off.
• President Cankles – don’t gossip like a schoolgirl about major national security issues. It would be one thing if it were your right-hand-man who was spilling state secrets to the ambassador, while telling him it’s for the Prime Minister’s ears only. But YOU ARE THE PRESIDENT. Mmmkay?
• President Hairbib – please, for the love of all that’s holy, get a haircut. It’s very distracting.
