Supernatural: Oh.My.God.

Ever notice how Supernatural has the uncanny ability to give us characters that we love, only to ruthlessly kill them? Sometimes after only one or two appearances? Yeah, thanks a lot, Kripke! Also, Metallicar gets crunched once again. Oh Noes!!!

In the first episode of the two show finale we get a wrap-up of the Lisa and Ben saga. It’s always loads of fun to see a good, kind character get infested with a demon. DemonLisa had some zingers! Once again, Dean calls on Castiel for a favor, wiping the memory of Dean from their minds. I think if Dean really wanted to put a cherry on that, he should have had Cas wipe his memory as well. I mean, what’s to stop some beastie from taking them again and flaunting them in Dean’s face? Still, I suppose it’s the thought that counts.

Meanwhile, Bobby is off tracking down a beastie that escaped from purgatory way back in the day (HP Lovecraft mythology is turned on its head here, apparently), who turns out to be Dr. Visyak, the dragon-killing sword owner and former lover of Bobby we met back in the middle of the season. She is awesome and full of info, so of course, she gets drained of her blood right quick, by angels!

Fringe: Blowing minds since … always

I didn’t really expect Fringe to become my No. 1 show.

The first season finale, however, put it there, and with the end of Lost and Battlestar Galactica, it’s been cemented at the top. (Supernatural and Doctor Who are extremely acceptable seconds, though.)

Friday night’s third season finale has made my brain hurt, in the same glorious tradition of the Lost “flash-forward” finale. Just when you think you kind of sort of know what’s going on, Peter flashes out of existence and the Observers are all tilting their heads like cats and telling September how he was right.

But there’s this: If Peter never existed, how were the two universes brought together? If Peter never existed, why did Walter go Over There in the first place? If Peter never existed, why does my brain hurt so much and who is this Polivia everyone’s been kvelling about all season?

I wouldn’t be stuck on the paradox of Peter’s nonexistence if Walter hadn’t made such a big deal about how he couldn’t not send the machine back because of the paradox it created. It may just be that Walter was wrong – that Walter didn’t have to send the machine back in time (by the way, the fact that Walter, Astrid and Ella were the First People? LOVE THAT.), but did because he thought he had to.

Revamping the Tyrant

You probably noticed the site looks a little different today. I just upgraded to WordPress 3.0 and upgraded my theme and decided I wanted to get away from the old snow in the background I used to have, as it was rather harsh on the eyes anyway. I haven’t decided what background to go with yet, but it made no sense to reinstall that old background.

I’m not fond of this neon orange, so don’t worry – it’s not here to stay. :-)

I’ve been rather lax in updating the blog in the past month, as you’ve likely noticed.

The end of two of my all-time favorite shows – Lost and 24 – left me unsure about what I wanted to blog on next. June is a pretty crappy month for TV anymore and though I love Burn Notice and In Plain Sight, I just don’t have a lot to talk about. I’d gotten so used to the analysis of Lost and Battlestar and the mocking of or cheering on for 24 that I don’t really want to go back to the recap route.

Fortunately, Warehouse 13 and Eureka start up soon, and I think both will provide plenty of fodder for good TVT posts.

Erika is hiding in a corner, crying out of sheer joy that there will be more Jensen Ackles next season. Seriously, though, I didn’t think they could get another decent season out of Supernatural after the apocalypse this season, but that final scene last month convinced me otherwise.

I’m also watching some stuff via Netflix, so I might start blogging about that. And I still have Season 2 of Torchwood to plow through. But I don’t want TVT to become an archival TV blog. Or, wait – that might be kinda cool.

Anyway, as you can see, I’m trying to figure out the direction to go in. I love TV (well, certain TV shows anyhow) and I do enjoy writing about it. I appreciate all the discussions and comments and everything we’ve had here, and they will continue, I promise.

Supernatural: Metallicar FTW!

I have no idea what other SPN fans thought, because I have been out of town and have spent the week playing catch-up. I was lucky I got to see the finale on Saturday. You know what? Kripke brought it!

A few shocking, horrible, awful deaths; some brotherly love; a hot car that saves the world; and an Angel gets his mojo back. Nice.

I was sure Samifer was a terrible idea, and I was sure the whole Sam/Lucifer talking in the mirror thing was gonna suck, but they didn’t dwell and Jared pulled off the two characters quite well. Seeing Lucifer swallow our darling Sammy up was hard to see, and I can’t believe I was rooting for a damn car to pull him out of it. A car!!

I am also a sucker for this style of storytelling, and it helped that I am a big fan of Chuck the Prophet. The one thing I do know, is that a lot of people are supposing that Chuck is GOD. I am back and forth on this, and may need to watch again to get a more solid opinion. He was wearing white… but would Kripke be that obvious? Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past him.

So, the ending. If this was the verylastSupernaturalever, I would have been satisfied. It would have sucked to think that Dean wouldn’t have his brother, but it would have made sense to me. It would have felt final and tied up and bittersweet and gratifying. But we all know there is another season to come, and Samifer standing under the street lamp, glaring at Dean and Lisa was not only clique, but kinda cheap. And let me tell you, if we have to endure another season of those stunning boys at odds, I am gonna be pissed. I watch this show for the the pretty, the gore and the brotherly love. A few episodes of Sam trying to get back to the world is fine, but not a whole season! Plus, I am not sure how much more of Dean’s suffering I can take.

And who are we gonna blame when things go awry next season? I am so used to “Damn you, Kripke!”, but will it now have to be “Damn you, Sera!”. Just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Breaking Bad: It’s brutal

The season finale of Breaking Bad this week was basiclaly like a big ol’ punch in the face.

I don’t mean that in a bad way.

For weeks now, we’ve been teased with images of body bags, a charred pink teddy bear in the White family pool and men in haz-mat suits at their home.

Who was dead?

What blew up?

Did Walt really bring the meth-making into his home?

Were Skylar or – goodness, no! – the new baby killed?

And then, midway through the finale, whammo, the reality became brutally apparent.

24: Season finale

I know there are many people out there who don’t agree with me, but I thought last night’s finale was rather good.

Look, it’s 24, and it’s been written so deep into a corner over the past several years that it’s amazing they’ve been able to write their way back out.

But the rebound from last season was nothing short of spectacular.

Over the course of the season, there have been more twists in the plot than on a strand of DNA.

But the finale managed to bring them all together, albeit with a whining Tony who is a mere shadow of the shell of the man he once was. We all knew that Michelle’s death hit him hard. And, OK, she was pregnant, so that makes it even harder. But watching Tony was like going back to the TV show Pretender, when Jared was doing a patented Triple Pretend.

Except for one thing: On Pretender, we always were in on Jared’s pretending. We knew he wasn’t a doctor. Or a car thief. Or whatever.

Tony? It shifted almost from week to week. Gave me a headache. Was Tony bad? Was he good? Was he bad? Was he good? Was he badly good? Goodly bad? Just plain ol’ bat-guano crazy??

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner! Bat-guano crazy.
