Supernatural: There’s No Place Like Home

“What’s up, bitches?”

I really like Charlie Bradbury, but I thought the Oz episode was kinda weak. I am a little grumpy about the idea of the faerie realm, even if I did like the UFO/Faerie episode. What? I’m mercurial that way. Anyway, I thought this episode wrapped up the Oz story quite nicely! I am enjoying Robbie Thompson’s episodes more and more.

We open with Charlie (soon to be referred to as DarkCharlie) going all Jack Bauer on some dude.

Dean is on a cleanse (egg white omelettes, green smoothies, kale wraps), but still super cranky due to Mark of Cain side-effects. Sam is twitchy, keeping an eye on Dean.

Charlie is back from Oz, and she has been split into “good” Charlie and “bad” Charlie by the Wizard of Oz. DarkCharlie kicked ass in the Oz war, but made Charlie scared. DarkCharlie has broken the key back to Oz, and is on the rampage looking for the guy who killed her parents to try and make Charlie like her.

Sam and Charlie head off to find a way to put Charlie and DarkCharlie back together, finding a retired Men of Letters who was referenced in the Oz files. Dean goes to keep an eye on DarkCharlie. When Dean catches up with her at the office of the guy who killed her parents, DarkCharlie lies to Dean, and kills the guy while Dean looks on horrified.

So, Dean and DarkCharlie end up at the retired Men of Letters home and fight outside, while Sam and Charlie are inside fighting the Wizard, who is the dark version of the MoL guy! Unfortunately for Charlie, her two parts are still connected physically, so once Dean starts punching DarkCharlie outside, Charlie is suffering the repercussions inside. (While Sam is tied up with green, magical Oz rope.) Charlie ends up shooting the guy dead, making her super good self very upset.

And here is the problem with Dean. The Mark doesn’t let him stop hurting DarkCharlie, even though he knows that it’s hurting someone he loves. And he loves Charlie, probably almost as much as he loves Sam.

The magical key is found, and both Charlies are laid next to each other so they can be reunited, while Dean has to look at the mayhem he has inflicted. Once Charlie is WholeCharlie again (with another broken bone) we get an awesome moment back in the bunker when Charlie, unlike Sam or Dean, confronts the issue head on. Thank you, Charlie!

Even though Charlie forgives Dean, he clearly hasn’t forgiven himself.

Dean listening to a Zen tape in Metallicar, a la Charlie Crews. Hee.

Dean (Mr. Presley) all into Fitness Now magazine’s article on mammograms. Hee.

I like how Dean calls Charlie kiddo. It’s endearing, in a Big Brother/Little Sister kinda way. And as usual, Dean’s familial feelings for someone is his weakness.

Quotes!

Dean: “As soon as we get rid of this demonic tramp stamp I’m back on the booze, burgers… and more booze.”

Sam: “So, there’s two of you? One good, one bad?” Dean: “Yeah, and dick you is some sort of a ninja?”

Charlie: “Bottom line, she’s bad, I’m good. And let me tell you, being good is really annoying. Normally, in a place like this I’d be pounding Harvey Wallbangers, and checking out the bartenders ass. Now, all I want to do is sip club soda and send her to college.”

*Charlie steals Metallicar* Dean: “DickCharlie just hot-wired baby.”

Dean: “You take one more step and I’m gonna put you down.” DarkCharlie: “There’s the Dean I love.”

DarkCharlie: “You hit like a girl who never learned how to hit.”

Charlie: “We are going to fix this. I am not letting what happened to me happen to you.” Dean: “But it’s already happened.”  Sam: “Cain found a way to live with it.” Dean: “Right. Yeah, after centuries of murder.” Charlie: “Yeah well, there’s one thing that you have that he didn’t. You’re a Winchester. I forgive you Dean.” (me: teary-eyed) Dean: “Yeah, well I don’t.” Charlie: “I know. Kinda your move. How’s that working out for you, huh?” Dean: I’m so sorry kiddo.” *hugs Charlie* Charlie: “Then prove it.” (me: weepy)

As usual, SPN drops the anvils, but I really liked how they solidified Charlie and Dean’s relationship. Sending Charlie off to help find a way to rid Dean of the Mark was sweet, and I enjoyed all of it. Plus, it was really nice to have a Sam and Dean episode. Love Crowley and Castiel, but I watch the show for my beautiful boys.

Next! Teen Dean. Hmmmmmm…
