Supernatural: Conversations in Cars

Supernatural is not known for its subtlety. I mean, hot brothers, hot car, hot angels, hot demons… Don’t get me wrong, you know I love this stuff, and SPN has touched on many of my favorite subjects (biblical stories, gohst stories, family stories), but sometimes you just want to get down to business. Paper Moon is about two werewolf sisters, one good, one bad, and the boys taking some time off from their sunbathing to go take care of business.

But we all know, that’s not what this episode is about. This episode is a sledgehammer to the face about Sam and Dean. As nice as it was to see the brothers out on a hunt, there are only two things that matter in this one.

#1 – Sam and Dean talk! A lot!! In the Metallicar!!!

#2 – Even though they started out rusty, they both got their hunting groove back by episodes end, tricking those two henchwolves and taking them out quite easily.

The rest of it, the blah blah blah over good and bad and all the shades in the middle is well worn territory for those beautiful brothers. But to have the boys sit in the car and hash it out was refreshing. After Dean says he never thanked Sam for saving him, Sam says “You don’t ever have to say that. Not to me,” And when Dean balks at talking about the Mark of Cain, even though Sam is very concerned, Dean says,  “I am just trying to do the right thing, man, because I’m so sick and tired of doing the wrong one,” *tears*

SIGNIFICANT. Yes, there are still things to work out. Yes, we will never, ever hear those boys say “I Love You”, as much as we all desperately want them to, but they worked through more Winchester shit in that one one episode than they have in maybe the last two seasons. Me likey.

Speaking of love, we are on the eve of Supernatural’s 200th episode. This is HUGE. I remember back when we were all biting our nails, worried we wouldn’t get a season three, or four, and then BOOM, we are at ten seasons and 200 episodes. I am very happy.

EW rated the 10 worst episodes (I mostly agree with this list), and then ranked all 200 episodes from best to worst. Let the fan debate begin! And a nice piece about exceeding expectations over on the very fun The Winchester Family Business blog. Plus, all the gifs (or, at least an attempt) over on tumblr.

Word on the street is that the 200th episode is not only a musical episode, but an all-girl high school musical based on the Carter Edlund Supernatural books. OMG, sneak peek for the non-spoilerphobes.
