Supernatural: Where in the hell is God?

I just need to start off by saying Thursday’s episode had so much of the humor that makes Supernatural also enjoyable.

I mean, “Spirit in the Sky” playing as the background music as Sam & Dean stroll into Demon Central, for us only to discover that the song’s actually playing on the radio of one of the abandoned cars? “Gonna recommend you/To the spirit in the sky,” indeed.

And even when Bobby became all morose, his demanding Castiel “lay his hands on” him to heal him provided some much-needed comic relief. And Cas having to call Sam on his cell phone to find him? Too perfect.

But to the point of things:

We met one of the four horsemen and we have pretty much all the hunters together. OK, except Sam, who’s hiding out now when he’s needed basically more than ever before.

I understand why Sam feels he needs to pull back. His extreme desire for demon blood could cause serious problems. But would the problems be any worse than what is already happening? I mean, we ARE talking about the Apocalypse here. Hear that Sam? THE APOCALYPSE. End times. End Of Days. You know, with the Four Horsemen, Satan, Hell On Earth? Sound bad?

I also love how Dean, despite completely accepting Demons, first had a problem accepting the existence of Angels and now has a problem accepting that there is a God. Reminds me of the joke about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac who stays up nights pondering the existence of Dog.

And given that this is Supernatural, whose creators seem to delight in turning Catholicism on its head while being actually rather reverent, I somehow believe that God, once we meet him (or her – don’t rule that out!) won’t be quite what we expect.

I think the way Jensen is playing Dean this season is so perfect. He obviously loves Sam, and has that knee-jerk reaction to protect him, but he is so hurt and pissed at him he can barely stand it. Excellent work!

Now, let’s hope Kripke doesn’t keep our boys apart for too long!

I’m with Erika, I don’t want the boys to stay apart for too long. Bad things happen when they’re apart–although, I guess plenty of bad things happen when they’re together, too.

Amy, I think you’re right about God not being what we’ll expect. The writers almost never do what the fans expect, so you can be sure they have something up their collective sleeves.

You know, one thing I really liked about this episode is that it harkened back to the feel of earlier seasons: going to the aid of another hunter (i.e., going off on a specific hunt, rather than just the nebulous Lilith/Lucifer/Angel stuff that so dominated last season). Not to mention, the return of Jo and Ellen! Loved seeing them again, I hope we see more during the season because I have missed seeing strong (non-evil) women on this show. Then there was the focus on Dean’s necklace, which he’s been wearing since the pilot episode–who knew it was really a charm to find God?? I just really enjoy when they bring things full circle like this. It not only rewards the long-time viewers who have been paying attention, but it helps the viewer feel that the writers have a master plan that they have lovingly tended to for the past four years. :)

Erika & Beth – I agree about the boys. I have a feeling that won’t last more than one or two episodes. I agree about how Jensen’s playing Dean. They’re both pretty awesome this season, I think.

And Beth, yes, seeing Jo & Ellen – I don’t know anything for sure, but I can’t help but think that we’re going to be seeing all the hunters, Rufus, Jo & Ellen, anyone else from along the way, this season. They have a lot of work to do, no?

And I agree, too, about the idea that the attention to detail does make it seem to indicate there’s been a master plan. And that makes me happy.

This welobg is definitely rather helpful considering that I’m in the second producing an world wide web floral web site – despite the fact that I am only beginning out for that reason it is genuinely pretty tiny, absolutely nothing such as this web site. Can hyperlink to some of the posts right here as they’re fairly. Thanks significantly
