@Erika - you were not alone, m'dear. I was SO glad when Des beat the crap outta Ben. I actually thought they did a decent job making Widmore look younger in the one where he had the long hair, but the other scenes were so weird. And then Ben's Duran Duran Simon LeBon hair cracked me up. He didn't look different AT ALL. But it's OK, b/c, after all, we're suspending disbelief on far more "important" things. That we had trouble with, but not Smokey? ;-P

@Donna - Totally agree about Ben. Michael Emerson so needs to win an Emmy for playing Ben that it's not even funny. True about him being vulnerable; it was nice to see that he actually can have true feelings.

I think Richard has found the Fountain of Youth. :)

The phrase "person you love to hate" was written for Ben. His character is so evil... and he looks like an "Average Joe". His little beady eyes creep me out. :)

So feeling the way I do about him... it was nice seeing him vulnerable and scared when faced with Alex in the temple.

And I totally agree... Desmond and Penny are destined to be together and no one should come between them.

I spent an insane amount of the episode being frightfully worried for Penny... thank god for Ben's weak spot, and Desmond's kick-assness. I also felt a lot of empathy for Ben in this episode, which is completely unsettling for me.

I think Widmore's aging was just the inability to make an actor that age look younger at all. I mean, him and Ben were supposed to be younger in those flashbacks, but it took an awful lot of 'suspension' to buy it, IMO.

Was that the most solid confirmation that the smoke monster can take human form? I know that there had been theories for several seasons that the dead people were smokey, but it seemed to finally be confirmed with the appearance of Alex... although it is entirely possible that my jumbled Lost brian has forgotten another time it happened.

@Sheila - Now there's an interesting thought. But wasn't Widmore an Other? He aged and had children, though. But maybe he was like Ben, and wasn't a TRUE other. That would explain why Ben "became" one of them when Richard took him into the temple, though.

I think Richard doesn't age, because he is in fact, dead. As the other, Other's are.
